One month into 2016

Wow...where did January go?  We did get some store clean-up accomplished along with year-end inventory, but we still have a long way to go on the path to organization!  A little bit of sewing mixed into the daily chore routine seems like a good balance right?

If you've admired this quilt in the past that features the contemporary color combination of yellow, black and grey - we are getting ready to retire it, and have 2 kits left, 25% off if you'd like to grab one up for a quick finish.  It makes a healthy throw size project so a versatile option for gifting or freshening up your decor.  Quilt features the Cosmopolitan line from Benartex.

Cosmopolitan Black Tulip
And we just received a new shipment of wool felt - perfect for valentines projects and we've added some spring colors too.  This felt heart garland is a quick option and you can find the tutorial here on Betz White's website.

Our other recent projects include this fresh version of the Charming Fractions quilt - a fat quarter friendly and multi-size project.  Just goes to show what a difference the fabric makes - this is the same pattern we used to feature our australian fabric collection.

And for some new fabric - we have a bit more than what is showing here as always but these are a few of the new groups we've added to the shelves.  We also have charm packs available for this mixologie group so if you like a variety of geometrics this is a great collection.

New Fabric and samples

We needed something bright and fresh to contrast with these drizzly grey days, I think this quilt fits the bill!  The project is from a great fat quarter friendly pattern by Abbey Lane Quilts and we featured several of the prints from Lotta Jansdotter's "Lucky" line with Windham Fabrics.
Lotta meets Sergeant Pepper
As we retire the Christmas decor, we are moving things around and rearranging some of the wall displays.  More is on the way, and we hope you're ready for some spring sewing soon.  Here is a new grouping from Windham Fabrics, Drift Away.  We haven't had too many mermaids featured on fabric lately, and I think the seahorse is a first for us.

Drift Away
And a quick update, the Pies & Tarts quilt really is growing!  That's 8 x 10 blocks now in case you've been keeping track.  I know it's slow, but it is steadily getting bigger.  Not sure how much longer I'll be at this one, but maybe it is easier to keep going then tackle the next phase as I'm thinking it might need to be hand-quilted.  Hmmm.

Here is a sampling of some recent reproduction fabrics that we just added to the mix - these are from Barbara Brackman's latest line with Moda.  We didn't get too many and the colors in the photo are a bit off from the real thing - you'll have to check them out in person!

Konig Workshop Details

Finally....the details you've been waiting for!  Don't wait ~ you'll want to run down to the shop, sign up on our website OR give us a phone call and we'll happily register you for the upcoming applique workshop with Carolyn Konig.  That will be two full days of stitching and creating...hope you are excited to learn some tips from Carolyn!

The project for the workshop is the Waddington Charm quilt, from Carolyn's book "Creating Heirlooms: One Stitch at a Time". The centerpiece of this quilt is the medallion, which combines applique, english paper piecing, and hand embroidery. Below is Carolyn's description about the design source for her quilt:

"The embroidery in the original exquisite British medallion coverlet was wrought in wool and silk thread. In the center, the maker stitched "Ann Stevenson 1734" but the actual coverlet wasn't completed until 1820-1840- a common practice of the day. Families often saved pieces of embroidery and incorporated them into later needlework projects."

Included in the price of the class is a lecture "Reproduction Quilting and Design Techniques" on Friday evening April 29th at 5:30pm.  Reservations are required, call or come in to register.  If you would still like to attend the lecture, but are not registering for the class, there is a $10.00 fee.
